    Sexual Offences Against Children Dominates High Court Criminal Session

    Gulu high court

    Sexual crime against underage girls tops the list of offenders who have been charged with capital offences before the Gulu High Court.

    Of 30 cases, 17 are aggravated defilement which tops the list, 4 rape cases, 6 murders and 3 aggravated robbery.

    The High Court criminal session opened on Monday before Gulu resident High Court Judge, Vincent Okwanga with 30 cases cause listed for trial.

    In one particular case, a man was charged with three counts of aggravated defilement involving a 9- year old girl.

    Prosecution led by William Bayo alleges that the month of April and June 2013 on unknown dates, at Kololo village, Amuru Sub County in Amuru district, Stephen Okello defiled three underage girls.

    Prosecutions alleged that Okello defiled three girls; aged 9, 12 and 13, on different occasions but during the same period.

    Okello denied all the charges. Justice Okwanga fixed September 15, 2016 as a date for hearing the case brought by the State against the suspect.

    In a similar case a suspect identified as Denis Kilama is alleged to have defiled 12-year-old girl. Kilama denied the charge.

    Meanwhile four men were also charged with aggravated robbery before the same court.

    Prosecution told court that on December 12, 2014, at Apol-celpeke in Koch Goma Sub County, Amuru district, George Anywar, Denis Ario Ongom, Denis Okori alias Al Shabaab and Geoffrey Olwa using deadly weapons, robbed 2 solar panels, 5 crates of soda, 2 crates of beer, 7 saucepans, 8 sets of hoes, a generator and bag of sugar.

    Others items they are accused of robbing include; 4 batteries, 3 mattresses, a bicycle and other household items.

    Court heard that the said items were robbed from three different families.

    They all denied the case brought against them.

    Justice Okwanga fixed September 8, 2016 as a date for hearing the case brought against the four men.
