The former in-charge of the Gulu police barracks clinic has been arrested and arraigned before the anti- corruption court in Kampala over alleged theft of drugs.
Walinda Abdalah, formerly Gulu police barracks clinic before his transfer to Masindi was arrested on Wednesday last week and appeared before the Anti- Corruption court on Friday.
Aswa region police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema told Acholi Times yesterday that
Mr Abdalah has been under probe since December 2013 when the alleged theft took place.
In another related case of alleged theft, the in- charge of Gulu university health center ii Morris Ocitti is reportedly on the run over alleged theft of 500 dozes of Hepatitis B drugs.
Hepatitis B is rampant in Gulu and northern Uganda. An August reported put the rate of Hepatitis B prevalence rate at 8.1%, with 5.6% of the cases related to HIV in Gulu district.
Ocitti, according to a police file to the Gulu Resident State Attorney signed the Hepatitis B vaccines from the Gulu health department by.
According to the file seen by Acholi Times, police later recovered the drugs said to have been stolen by Ocitti in a health centre in Gulu town.
In the same file was a letter by the Gulu Resident District Commissioner, Okot Santo Lapolo in which he asked police to investigate how reagents for the Hepatitis B vaccine Ocitti bought for Gulu University ended up in a private pharmacy in Gulu town.
In response to the RDC’s letter dated 2nd August, the Officer in Charge of Crime at Gulu Central Police, Mr. James Asubu said a general inquiry file number 014/2016 has been opened against Ocitti.
