Mao has mourned Olanya describing him as an ”outstanding and promising leader.”

A Councilor representing  Twegana South Parish in Pece Division in Gulu municipality on Thursday night knocked dead in a hit and run accident in Gulu town.

Odong Tommy Olanya, 39, was knocked dead by a speeding car at the junction linking Ring Road to the Gulu- Kampala road.

An eye witness, Franka Alinga, said the Mr Olanya was on a Boda- Boda(motorcycle taxi) heading to Layibi Centre when the accident happened.

‘‘The vehicle was coming towards them at a very high speed. It hit the motorcycle from behind and all of a sudden, the Councillor laid still on the ground while his colleague was shaking,’’ said Alinga.

Police say Mr Olanya was knocked by a  Prado vehicle a Prado  registration number  UAU746R which was being drive by Major Otim G Damien, a soldier attached to Bombo military barracks.

The Boda- Boda registration number UEA433X  on which  the late Olanya was travelling was being ridden by Micheal Ouma, 27. Ouma is nursing injuries at St Marys Hospital Lacor.

Police say a Noah vehicle registration UAP 020J was also knocked by Major Otim before he rammed on the Boda- Boda from behind.

By press time a postmortem was being conducted on the late Tommy Olanya.

Mr Olanya was elected Councilor on the Democratic Party(DP) ticket. DP President Norbert Mao mourned the late Olanya describing him as an   ‘‘outstanding young leader.’’

‘‘The late Tommy Olanya was a sober, intelligent young man of great promise. The party has lost an outstanding young leader. Even though we are fully aware the limitations of our words of consolation, still our hearts go out to his family. We pray to God to give them strength. May his soul rest in peace.’’

The UPDF major was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident.

Rubbish, if the so called Major Damien was drunk why was he allowed to drive in a high speed? He should have been arrested for drink driving and murder. When will these evil soldiers depart from the land? Divine Judgment will come no matter how long it takes…
