Former Forum for Democratic Change(FDC) Party candidate in the Omoro District LC 5 Chairman elections, Simon Toolit Akecha has vowed not again challenge to challenge in the courts of law any election results in court because his opponents have strong ‘’ties’’ with president Museveni.
Mr Toolit lost the August 29 Omoro election to independent rival Mr Douglas Peter Okello aka Okao.
Mr Okello is the former Gulu district NRM Chairperson who castigated the NRM in July and announced that he had quit the party.
In the hotly contested election, Mr Toolit who is also the Gulu District FDC chairperson polled 5,461 votes while Mr Okao got 5,526, winning Toolit with a margin of only 65 votes.
Toolit alleges he has lost previous election petitions because of the ties his past and current opponents have with President Museveni. Toolit was speaking to Acholi Times in an interview on Wednesday.
Mr Toolit lost twice to the incumbent Omoro District MP also Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah. His election petition cases against Oulanyah were repeatedly thrown out of court with costs on grounds of insufficient evidence.
“It’s game over for me. I will never go to court any more to challenge elections results declared by Electoral Commission [EC] in favor of my opponent. I have been fighting Museveni’s politician,’’ Toolit said.
‘‘Mr Museveni is the fountain of honor and fighting anyone close to him is like fighting him and that’s the reason why I have decided not to head to court.’’
According to Mr Toolit, despite Mr Okello denouncing NRM party, he(Okello) is still very much a loyal NRM party member and a close ally of president Museveni who financially supported him[Okello ] during elections.
Toolit in the interview also finally conceded defeat to Mr Okello after vowing early this month never to accept the outcome of the election.
When contacted, Mr Okao said he would not comment on Mr Toolit’s statements saying he[Okao] is no longer interested in politicking.
