President Yoweri Museveni has delegated Vice President, Edward Sekandi to represent him at the burial of army Gen Julius Oketta.

A draft plan for the burial arrangements seen by Acholi Times had indicated that Museveni would be the ‘‘chief mourner’’ at the burial of the fallen General.

Maj Gen Oketta died on Saturday at Kadic Hospital in Kampala where he was rushed after a sudden sickness. He was aged 60.

A post mortem report indicates that Oketta suffered from a blockage in a blood vessel in the lungs. The report further indicates that he died of a ‘‘massive pulmonary embolism.’’

Vice President Sekandi will give a speech one behalf during Oketta’s burial today in Lacor Palema in Lamogi Sub County in Amuru district.

President Museveni yesterday morning paid his respect to the late Oketta at the fallen General’s home in Najjera, Kampala.

The body of Oketta was given a heroic welcome yesterday in Gulu with people lining up the streets as his body was towed in a wagon pulled by an armored vehicle. His remains was flown to Gulu in military helicopter which landed at St Joseph’s College Layibi, outside of Gulu town before the body was  towed for viewing at Gulu district council hall in Gulu town.

Local leaders hailed the late Oketta. Lilly Adong, the Nwoya woman Member of Parliament described Oketta as a ‘‘committed and selfless leader.’’

The late Oketta is survived by a widow and nine children.
