Acholi leaders have condemned the murder of Kenneth Akena who was today buried in Kitgum district.

Akena was shot in the stomach Saturday night in Kampala, allegedly by one, Matthew Kanyamunyu, a businessman who is also reported by some media outlets to be a security operative. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Sunday morning.

Several people including friends’ relative, old boys of St Joseph’s College Layibi and local leaders thronged Holy Rosary Church to pay their respects.

Gulu Chairman Ojara Martin Mapenduzi called for police to be transparent in their investigations.

“Losing such a young innocent person is not only a setback to the family but to the country at large and as leaders we are not going to relax on pressurizing the government for justice to prevailed over the shooting,’’ Mapenduzi said.

Reverent Father Eric Uma the parish priest of Holy Rosary who preside over the requiem mass told mourners that the right to take over life is only with God.

Fr Uma called on the government to use all the resources available to investigate the matter other than wasting money on following opposition leader Kizza Besigye demonstration.

“It will be very unfair if the government fails provide proper investigation on the loss of our son when we see millions of shilling being wasted to quell FDC’s Kizza Besigye.
