The police has said it is investigating singer Bosmic Joyce Otim on allegations that he could have had a hand in the financing recent night attacks on unsuspecting residents of Gulu municipality.
Gulu residents are currently living in fear of being hit on the head by thugs commonly known as ‘‘Iron Bar Hitmen.’’
Many in Gulu and beyond where left perplexed on Tuesday last week when police picked up Otim from his home.
Mr Otim is a well-known and popular singer in northern Uganda.
At the time of his arrested it was thought that Bosmic had been picked and detained by police on suspicion that he had a role in the night attack on Denis Okello, a local singer and radio presenter who goes by the stage name Tupee.
Tupee was hit on the head last week, was rushed to St Marys Hospital Lacor in critical condition from where his condition is said to have stabilised. Acholi Times, however, understands that the singer has since been transferred to Mulago in Kampala where his condition is said to have again deteriorated.
Early this week Aswa region police Spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema said police is investigating Bosmic Otim for allegedly financing the Gulu night attacks.
It is unclear at this stage as to what Bosmic’s motive could be if indeed he has had a role in the rampant attacks on Gulu town residents.
Okema said police had already recorded statements from some of the individuals who are believed to be behind the wave of attacks in Gulu. He, however, declined to reveal any further information on what the suspects told police.
So far the evidence against Bosmic as a suspected financial in the attack appears weak. He was released on police bond and will continue to report at Gulu Central police as police continues with its investigations.
At least two people have been killed in the last one month by the thugs while 14 have been attacked in and around Gulu municipality during the same period.
The Gulu District Resident Commissioner (RDC), Capt Santo Okot Lapolo has blamed the attacks on what he calls security lapses.
Capt Lapolo explained that some security personnel relaxed making the ‘‘Iron Hit Men’’ gang to take advantage of the situation.

This is absolutely rubbish. If any thing it has been the singers who promote peace among the people more than the politicians. Such allegation a local artist is uncalled for, and it is a demoralizing mechanism against all the local artists. They sang to welcome peace in northern Uganda and they have maintained to promote the peace. Leave these artists alone.
