Police, according to Okema, boarded the trailer, drove towards Gulu town then turned back along the Gulu- Nimule road. The suspected robber stopped the same truck around Sacred Heart School thinking it was a different.
Police men who had boarded the truck jumped out off and disarmed the attacker who fled.
The suspected robber was dressed in a blue security uniform with resemblance to the type that is put on by SARACEN, a private security company, police said.
The recovered gun with serial number UG POL 1087820- 132 9330 had earlier been stolen from a private security in Gulu town identified as Walter Oryem, 34, who works for EXPOSS, a security company.
Oryem was attacked on the night of December 17, 2016 while guarding a family home in Pece division, Gulu Municipality.
Police recovered three live ammunition in the gun—the same number the gun had when it was stolen from Mr Oringa who was hit and left unconcious.
