At least six huts were burned down in Omoro district by suspected arsonists in what appears to have been a retaliatory attack over the alleged murder of a 50-year-old man.
Mark Ocan was reportedly attacked and killed following a fight in a local drinking joint in Onang village, Abwoch Parish in Ongako Sub County on Thursday 29, December.
Ocan died instantly after he was allegedly hit using a hoe handle by one Robert Nyeko with whom they had a squabble over a woman in a local bar.
In revenge for Ocan’s death his kinsmen on Sunday stormed homes belonging to Nyeko’s family and touched six huts.
Nyeko’s family is reportedly in hiding.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident and condemned the murder and the act of setting ablaze huts in revenge.
Okema warned that those involved will be charged in court.
No single suspect is yet to be arrested either in connection with the murder or the arson.
The Omoro District LCV Chairperson, Douglas Peter Okello, who visited the scene of the killing on Friday last week condemned the murder saying it is unlawful for residents to take law into their hands.
