Justice Vincent Okwanga, the Gulu resident High Court judge has ordered Christopher Acire, the former Member of Parliament for Gulu Municipality to pay a businessman a total of 130.5 million Shillings in damages and rent arrears.
In a ruling read by Henry Twinomuheezi, the Gulu High Court registrar on Monday at Gulu High Court, the justice Okwanga ordered Acire to pay 40 million shillings to Joseph Oringa Oryem, a Gulu businessman who deals in motor bike spare parts.
Court also ordered Acire to pay 80m Oringa, in general damages and additional 10.5 million in rent arrears for one year rent for his [Acire’s] radio station, 102.7 GULU FM which is housed in a building owned by Oringa. The former legislator also faces eviction from the commercial building which houses the radio.
Acire’s troubles stem from his failure to vacate the house on located along Market Street in Laroo Division, Gulu Municipality after he sold it to Oringa. Since 2014, Oringa has been attempting to get the property but the former legislator refused to vacate it claiming he still owned the house.
Oringa then went to court claiming rightful ownership of the house located on Plot 10, Market Street, Laroo Division in Gulu Municipality. Court ruled in his [Oringa’s] favour. According to documents tendered before court, Acire sold the house to Oringa at Shs200 million in March, 2014. Acire, however turned around denying ever selling the house
Oringa’s lawyer, Paul Julius Layoo meanwhile told Acholi Times that his client will next week go to court seeking an order to compel Acire to pay the costs of the legal suit.
