On three different occasions in the dock, the suspect bicycle thief has played deaf and dumb. On Wednesday, he was up to up to his old tricks again. With no alternative, the
Isaac Ojok yesterday appeared before the Gulu Grade 1 Magistrate Yunusu Ndiwalana charged with theft of a bicycle which is said to belong to his grandfather.
But before court, Ojok declined to speak or make any gestures after his paternal aunt Janet Acan, 30 was given an opportunity by the magistrate to cross examine Ojok on the alleged theft of the bicycle.
But Ojok chose to keep silent leaving the court puzzled. Several attempts to persuade him to speak were futile.
His Aunt Acan had told court that on May 26, 2017 at Abuduru village in Lalogi Sub County in Omoro district, Ojok stole a family bicycle and her bag. Since then, according to Acan, neither the bag nor the bicycle has been recovered.
Acan also told court that her nephew had no history of being deaf or dumb since on several occasions he has been able to speak to her without any difficulty.
Magistrate Ndiwalana was left with no option but to remand the bicycle thief suspect to Gulu Local Government Prisons until August 10, when he is expected to reappear before the same court for further hearing of the case.
