Police in Lamwo district are investigating circumstances under which a man sneaked into one of their police posts and stole a police motorbike.

In a dare-devil act, one Sisto Oyoo, a suspect in the theft is alleged to have sneaked at around 4am on Monday and rolled away the police motorcycle registration number UP 2310 The motorcycle is attached to the Police Traffic and Road Safety Department.

The motorbike was later recovered parked at Oyoo’s home.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson said four police officers on duty have been detained for questioning.

Okema explained that the officers were arrested because they should have been awake and in the process prevented the theft of the police motorbike.

The arrested officers have been charged with neglect of duty. The officers are: Corporal Emmanuel Aseya, Patrick Komakech, Patrick Okangiu and Nassa Owiro.

Okema revealed that preliminary police investigation indicates that the Oyoo, the suspect in the theft, could have stolen the motorbike in revenge.

The police spokesman said in March this year, one of the traffic officers impounded Oyoo’s motorbike after it was found to have no number plate. This apparently did not go down well with Oyoo.

Police say Oyoo will be subjected to a mental health test in order to ascertain his mental health.
