Police in Aswa River region is investigating circumstances under which the Amuru LC3 Chairman of Lamogi sub county Atkinson Ojara paid 500,000 shillings to unknown people that had kidnapped Sharon Lamaro, his 20- year old wife.
Sharon Lamaro endured a grueling 24 hour ordeal in the hands of unknown kidnappers on Saturday before she was released on Sunday. She was kidnapped Saturday evening from Wiya Nono village in Gira- Gira parish in Lamogi in Amuru district before being dumped Sunday night at around 10pm.
Police say the kidnappers drove their victim for about 25kms before dropping her in Keyo, along the Gulu-Atiak Highway.
Lamaro told police she was kept by her kidnappers in a house inside a wall fence in Gulu which had people dressed in army uniforms.
The motive of the kidnap is not yet known, according to police.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson confirmed in the incident in a press briefing Monday afternoon at the Northern Uganda Media Club in Gulu town.
Okema said Lamarao was released after her husband paid a 500,000 shilling ransom, Jimmy Patrick Okema told the press briefing at the Northern Uganda Media Club on Monday.
Okema told journalists the suspected kidnappers who were wearing hoods drove Lamaro from Labongo-Ogali in Lamogi Sub County in Amuru district to an unknown location where they locked her in a room.
Later, according to Okema, the men used Lamaro’s phones to threaten and harass her husband and members of her family.
Okema explained that the victim was released on Sunday after the ransom was paid through mobile money as demanded by the kidnappers. He adds that police has opened investigation into the alleged kidnapped.
By press time, no single arrest had been made yet.
