Gulu district has offered 65 acres of land for the construction of a regional industrial hub in Acholi Sub Region. It is located Kom Ker Village Oding Parish in Unyama Sub County.
Justine Toorach the Unyama Sub County Chairperson said that the land was offered by over thirty households free of charge following a negotiation with Gulu district over benefits of the project.
The offer followed President Yoweri Museveni`s pledge of constructing a regional industrial park to provide vocational skills training in Acholi sub region during his countrywide tour recently.
Milton Kato, the Chief Administrative Officer for Gulu confirmed that the district has carried out assessment at the site and informed the president`s office.
Kato explained that the project was launched from Gulu district this month and will provide vocational skills training including carpentry and joinery tailoring, shoe making, stone cutting, bakery, craftsmanship and hair dressing specifically for the youths from the eight districts of Acholi and parts of West Nile Sub Region.
Lucy Nakyoba, the State House Controller in-charge of Finance and Administration confirmed that they are aware of the offer noting that the project work will commence after three months.
Nachoba said government will equip the Centre with all learning tools and accommodation and feeding for the beneficiaries.
She added that this is part of government`s initiative to creating self-employment among youths and women in the country.
Susan Acan, the Gulu Municipal Female Youth Councilor applauded the president for fulfilling his pledge noting that the project is an ideal solution to youth`s unemployment.
Former Gulu Municipal Youth Councilor, Samuel Agwani Oyet asked the community to own the project citing that it will help to transform lives of the youths and women through the skills training.
