Police in Omoro are holding a man accused of assaulting his 85-year-old grandmother.

Brian Okello, 25, was on Easter Sunday caught on video severally beating Lucy Anek, his 85- year old grandmother.

The incident occurred in Amilobo Village in Ongako Sub County, Omoro district.

The gruesome video has generated public anger online with calls for the police to take swift action on the suspect.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson said police arrested Okello at 3:00 am today from a deserted grass thatched hut next to the place next to where he had beaten his grandmother. Okello had been on the run for two days.

Amilobo Village General Secretary, Innocent Okello Tolbert said Okello had a habit of beating his grandmother.

The local leader said the suspect was single handedly raised by Anek since childhood after his parents passed on. Anek is a widow whose livelihood depends on subsistence farming.

In the horrific video circulating online, Okello, wearing a black T-shirt repeatedly beats his bare-chested grandmother who cries helplessly.

Dorcus Akello, who is currently taking care of Anek at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital (GRRH) where she is nursing wounds said that she was stabilizing.

Ongako LC3 Chairperson, William Ocittis says preliminary finding indicates that Okello was claiming part of six million from sale of the ancestral land last week.
