St Mary`s Hospital Lacor Gulu has downplayed rumours that two suspected coronavirus patients have died in the hospital’s isolation unit.

A  statement from the Gulu- based hospital follows rumours that two out of three patients isolated at the hospital died of coronavirus on Sunday.

In the statement on Monday, the hospital’s management disputed the allegations saying the three were put in isolation because they met the Ministry of Health’s criteria for ‘‘Covid-19 suspicion’’.

The two patients who died, the hospital statement added, also had other underling health conditions. Their samples were taken for testing for Covid-19 and the hospital is awaiting the results.

Josephine Anying, the Lacor Hospital Communication Officer said that the deceased were referred to Lacor from a health facility while in critical condition.  Neither  Anying nor the hospital statement named the health facility from which the deceased were referred.

Anying explained that upon arrival, the three were isolated after showing signs and symptoms of coronavirus.

Lacor currently has no cases of suspected coronavirus patients in isolation. Uganda as of Monday had confirmed 79 cases with no death reported.
