Political activist Barbara Alimadi has died. The deceased is one of the 17th children born to former Prime Minister Otema Alimadi who served in the Obote II government between 1980 and 1985.
Alimadi, an engineer by training, was also International Affairs Secretary of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).
Her brother Milton Alimadi announced news of her death on his Twitter and Facebook on Monday night.
In his tweet, Alimadi described the deceased as a much-loved sister, aunty, cousin who was also an activist and a champion of justice and democracy in Uganda.
Alimadi said that the family will provide more information in the course of time adding that the public should respect the family’s privacy.
Rtd Major General Mugisha Muntu, the ANT national coordinator and ANT national coordinator for finance and administration Alice Alaso have also sent in their condolences to the bereaved family.
Alimadi was reportedly found dead in her house in Kampala in Kiwatule suburb by one of her cousins with whom she stayed in the house.
Alimadi gained popularity as an activist in April 2012 when she appeared on different news platforms during the semi-nude protest that followed the televised police assault on activist Ingrid Turinawe.
Opposition activists have hailed the late Allimadi for her bravery and conviction to justice and the Opposition cause for positive change in Uganda.
Daily Monitor has reported police is probing her death.
