Two suspected Karimojong cattle rustlers were on Monday night killed in Kokil village in Paimol Sub County, Agago District.
According to local authorities, the incident happened on Monday at around 11PM when the pair sneaked into a kraal being guarded by local cattle farmers armed with bows and arrows.
George William Kilama, the Local Council Three Chairperson of Paimol Sub County confirmed the report adding that the rustlers were reportedly killed by local cattle farmers who were armed with bows and arrows.
Kilama said the cattle thieves have become a menace to cattle keepers due to constant cattle thefts. He revealed that since December 2019, the rustlers have killed one person and injured eight others. During the same period, he said, 150 cattle was stolen and 32 recovered.
Agago Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Lino Ngompek said since the beginning of 2020, at least seven suspected Karimojong cattle rustlers have been killed.
The Agago RDC said majority of the cattle rustlers are suspected to be the Jie from Kotido district.
Cattle thefts are common in districts such as Agago and Kitgum which share boundaries with the Karamoja sub region and South Sudan.
