Amuru Prison in Amuru district has been closed and is undergoing fumigation after the Ministry of Health found that 153 inmates and a prison warder tested positive for coronavirus.
Geoffrey Osborn Oceng the Amuru Acting Resident District Commissioner said that the facility has been placed under quarantine for the next 28 days.
Michael Lakony, the Amuru district chairperson said on Wednesday last week that the entire prison facility is being fumigated. Mr. Lakony disclosed that the district health team started the fumigating last week; cleaning offices, toilets, washrooms, kitchens and all prison assets. The detergents were provided by the Ministry of Health.
Patrick Odong Olwedo, the Amuru District Health Officer said that the inmates who tested positive for the Coronavirus are receiving treatment in Gulu while those who tested negative are quarantined at Gulu Main Prison.
