Two men suspected to have murdered Denis Nyeko, 35, a boda boda operator in Gulu town in September are expected to reappear before the Gulu Chief Magistrate’s Court in Gulu today.

Rogers Kyeyune, 25, and Fred Kakooza alias Nyabende, 22, all employees of Life Loaf Bakery in Layibi Division in Gulu Municipality appeared before Deogratius Ssejemba, the Gulu Chief Magistrate in connection with the murder of Nyeko.

The Magistrate remanded the pair to Gulu Central Government Prisons until today (26, October, 2016) when they are expected to reappear before the same court.

When they appeared before the Gulu Chief Magistrate in September, the suspects were asked not to enter any plea since the offences they are alleged to have committed is of a capital nature and beyond the jurisdiction of a the magistrate’s court. The pair are expected to be charged with robbery and murder.

William Bayo, the State Prosecutor handling the case informed court in September that investigation into the matter was incomplete and prayed for an adjournment to allow more time for investigation.

Nyeko was found dead on the night of Thursday, 18, September, 2015 along Lajwartek road, about 2 kms from the Gulu-Kampala Highway.

Police say they found bruises on the body of deceased, a sign of struggle before his eventual murder.

A postmortem report indicated that the deceased was hit on the back of the head with a blunt object.

On arrest, Kyeyune, a resident of Nakasongola district informed police about his accomplice Kakooza who was later arrested in Gulu town.

Kyeyune was arrested after he was found in possession of the late Denis Nyeko’s red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UEB 490M. He was picked by the police from Bweyale, about 50 miles from the scene of crime as he attempted to change the number plate of the motorcycle.
