The army has offered a helicopter to help in the search for a Dutch national who went missing on Wednesday at Murchison Falls National Park in Nwoya district, northern Uganda.
Sophie Isabela Fredrick, a medical student from The Netherlands disappeared at around 7PM on Wednesday.
The 4th Division army Spokesman, Lt Ronald Ovon could not be reached for comment on the army’s role in the search for the missing Dutch national.
But Tom Okello, the area Conservation Manager Murchison Falls National Park told Acholi Times today that the army chopper is helping in the search for the missing Dutch woman along the banks and over the river.
Her disappearance was reported by two of her friends identified as Hellen Evaline and another identified only as Liselot.
There are fears that the Dutch medical student could have drowned in the crocodile -infested waters or even attacked by the reptiles and dragged into the water.
Police has not revealed the details of the statements that her friends made, or the circumstances under which the missing Dutch woman walked away from where she was with her colleagues towards the river bank.
Latest reports indicate that torn pieces of clothing that she was wearing on the day of her disappearance were yesterday recovered on the banks of the Nile.
On Thursday, a joint team of rangers and security officers recovered a bottle of mineral water that she is said to have been drinking at the time of her disappearance. The bottle was found just six metres from the waters of the river.
A case of her disappearance has been recorded at Nwoya Central Police under SD/16/29/10/2015.
