A Gulu university lecturer has been detained by police in Gulu over the death of a 23 year old student of the university who was killed in a motor accident last month.
Okumu John Bismarck, a lecturer in faculty of education was arrested yesterday. At the time of arrest he was in company of Ocheng George, an accountant with Abela Construction Company Limited. Ocheng has also been detained by police.
Ocaya Fred Ongom Kinyera, a student of Business Administration was knocked dead on the night of October 17. He was allegedly knocked by the lecturer’s car registration number UAR 777L. The accident occurred along cemetery road in Gulu town, near a local pub.
Candano Jacob, a brother of the deceased said the family seeks justice for his brother’s death.
Okumu John Bismarck however says he was not driving the car at the time of the accident. Instead, he says, the car was being driven by one Lagen Fred Ojok whose whereabouts he says he does not know.
Police say the lecturers car had been hidden since the accident occurred until it was found at garage in Gulu on October 23.
Washington Labeja, the OC traffic Gulu confirmed the arrest of the Gulu university lecturer. He told Acholi Times that the don is being detained as police investigates the matter.
