Praying for the spirits to protect his new ride. Rwot Otinga of Lamogi (with his back to the camera) prays to the gods to protect his car from misfortunes (James Onono)

Rwot Martin Otinga Otto Yai II, the chief of Lamogi clan in Amuru district has sought divine protection for a car donation he recently received from president Museveni.

The donation was in fulfillment of a pledge the President made in March this year while commemorating 104 years after the 1911 Lamogi rebellion in which the Lamogi people rebelled against British colonial army.

Rwot Otinga took the vehicle to his village royal shrine in Guruguru, Lamogi sub county Amuru district on Friday last week explaining that the ritual will keep safe from misfortunes.

The chief claims it is the spirits which hunted for the car and delivered it to him and therefore they (spirits) need to be appeased to keep away bad luck from befalling on the car.

As his subjects chanted, the Chief ordered his driver to drive the car into the shrine.

Lamogi, the third largest clan in Acholi believe in a supreme being called jok which they believe can help members of the clan, if treated well.

Otinga received the brand new Mitsubishi Pajero car from  president  Museveni early this month.
