Amuru magistrates court has postponed the hearing of a case against Kilak County MP Gilbert Olanya to January 7, 2016.

A case in which Kilak Member of Parliament Gilbert Olanya is charged with inciting violence has been postponed to next year.

MP Olanya who appeared before the Amuru Grade One Magistrate’s today was told to reappear before the same court on January 7, 2016.

The legislator was represented by one of his lawyers Henry Kilama Komakech.

Olanya had appeared before the Amuru Grade I Magistrate, Edward Okot to answer three charges related to inciting violence.

The cases relate to the violence which rocked Pabbo and Apaa trading centre, in Amuru district  following the forceful demarcation of the Amuru- Adjumani border boundary.

In October 12, Geoffrey Anyuru, the lead counsel for Olanya asked court for more time to study the case, a request that was granted by magistrate Okot.

The legislator was arrested by police inSeptember for allegedly inciting locals to take up machetes in order to protest the ‘‘grabbing’’ of their land.

Ponsiano Okello, the Senior State Prosecutor for Amuru says they are ready to proceed with the hearing.

Okello says they have already secured 42 witnesses and are ready to testify against the MP.

The land in question led to naked protests by elderly women before ministers the late Gen Aronda Nyakairima and his Lands counterpart Daudi Migereko.

The somewhat 40sq km land which borders Adjumani District is claimed by Amuru district on one hand and the Uganda Wildlife Authority and Adjumani district on the other.
