President Yoweri Museveni has described Kitgum Woman Member of Parliament Beatrice Anywar as a ‘‘treacherous daughter’’ who betrayed his trust by defecting to his rival Amama Mbabazi.

Museveni was on Sunday campaigning at Boma grounds in Kitgum town. He said Anywar had stabbed in him in back by supporting Mbabazi despite him[ Musevenu] defending her attackers.

“I worked with Ms Anywar at the time Nodding Disease Syndrome was ravaging the region[northern Uganda]. She is a good leader who I defended whenever she was attacked by her rivals, but she has decided to pay me back by crossing to Mbabazi,” Museveni said.

Anywar is a member of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change and not from Museveni’s ruling NRM.

The Kitgum Member of Parliament recently backed the candidature of independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi of the Go Forward camp, a move that earned her rebuke from her party, FDC.

But Museveni said he knows how to respond to people who betray his trust like Anywar.

“I know how to deal with people who betray my trust and turn against me. They will not beat me down,” he said.

The President said if elected he will uplift the socio-economic status of locals in Kitgum district through improved roads, provision of seeds and quality education.

“I am pledging that my government has made plans to improve on the road networks in the region. You can all see the visible road works ongoing to the South Sudan border in Lamwo district.”

He also told the rally in Kitgum that his government will be providing all the districts with new equipment for road construction that includes road compactors, water bowers, bulldozers and trucks.

Museveni has ruled Uganda for close to 30 years.  Corruption is endemic in his government. The World Bank states that as much as 600 billion shillings of public money is lost  due to corruption.

While campaigning earlier at Namukora sub-county, the president also promised to institute an investigation   to probe into the 1986 Namukora massacre where 56 people were allegedly killed by his National Resistance Army. He also promised an investigation into the Mucwini massacre saying he had already directed the Solicitor General to begin an inquiry into the murder of civilians

Mr Museveni is expected to wind up his campaign  in Acholi Sub-region on Monday in the districts of Pader and Agago before heading to Karamoja region.
