A security guard attached to exposs security group is a wanted man after allegedly stealing a Prado vehicle belonging to the Federation of Uganda Female Lawyers (FIDA) branch in Gulu.

The guard identified as Dravule Pandaleo had been deployed at the offices of FIDA located in senior quarters in Gulu municipality.

Angua Steven, a driver with FIDA reported the theft of the vehicle registration number UAP 134M to police in Gulu.

Aswa region police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema told the media on Monday that when police visited the scene of the crime, they found that the security guard had abandoned his cap and gun registration number UG POL 22012586106947 with four rounds of ammunition.

Okema says police investigations reveals that the suspect comes from Maracha district in West Nile region where he is reported to have fled before crossing over to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where his family is said to have another home.

According to Okema, the vehicle has been found in the DRC but the suspect is still at large and that officials from the Congo are demanding for over 500 dollars (about 1,700,000 million) before they can release the car.

Okema said cases of security guards being involved in theft at property they are meant to guard is on the increase and is due to poor pay.

‘‘The issue of security guards being involved in theft is not new. Several times security guards have been found stealing property they are meant to guard, and this is as a result of poor pay,’’ Okema said.

The police spokesman revealed that the police will this week hold a meeting with bosses of security firms to address rising incidents of guards being involved in theft.
