The Arch Bishop of Gulu Arch Diocese, John Baptist Odama has called on all religious, political and local leaders to embark on promoting unity that brings about peaceful coexistence ahead of the Christmas season.

“Let us join hands with all the political aspirants for 2016 general elections, Muslims, born again Christians, Anglican and all those who believe in God to promote unity as we enter this Christmas season. This is the time we reflect on our faith that brings about peace,” Bishop Odama said.

Bishop Odama made the remarks while making a sermon at Holy Rosary Catholic church after commissioning a new extension of the church building on Sunday.

The church building was constructed at a tune of Shs 300 million with contributions from Christians, President Museveni and well-wishers.

Bishop Odama said he believes in peace.

“If anything wrong is happening within our midst, we need to opt for reconciliation. We should mingle freely with religious leaders from the various sects to enable us have peace and unity in our area,” Bishop Odama said.

During the mass, Odama confirmed 150 children and presided over the wedding of three couples.

Sending his message to parents, Bishop Odama urged them to teach their children to learn prayers saying that children’ prayers are magical and powerful.

“I want to challenge the parents to teach their children to pray for us. Children have powerful prayers that can change lives and the world.”

Bishop Odama said he believes prayers of children inspired him to mediate between the rebel Lords Resistance Army (LRA) and the Uganda government.
