Grieve engulfed a family in Pajengo village in Got Apwoyo Sub County  in Nwoya district after their five year old  child identified as Jonathan Owachgiu was on Wednesday evening found dead in a nearby stream.

The child had gone with three other children to fetch water in a stream located about 300 metres from home. The top of his jerrycan reportedly fell in the water and when he attempted to get it, he too fell in the stream.

One Micheal Okumu, a resident of the village said the other children unsuccessfully tried to save him from drowning using a stick.

The mother of the child said she rushed to the stream but found her son already dead.

“We tried giving him a first aid by pressing his stomach but only bubble could come out of his mouth,” the hapless mother said.

Michael Oyat the Nwoya district probation Officer appealed to parents to stop sending children streams.

At the time of publishing this story, the body of the boy was still at Anaka Hospital for postmortem before it can be handed over to the family.
This is the 4th case in Nwoya district in which a child is drowning in stream in a period  one and half years.
