Oscar Omony Otema, the son to UPDF chief of logistics Brig Charles Otema Awany has been declared northern Uganda youth Member of Parliament.

Omony polled 533 votes while his challenger George Abdul got 449 votes. The third candidate, Innocent Layoo got only two votes.

Joyce Wadi, the regional electoral officer declared Oscar Omony Otema the new youth MP for norther Uganda.

The race between Omony and Abdul was a grueling one. For long spells in the vote counting the two went neck to neck.

Omony’s victory will undoubtedly please his father who in Gulu is a known NRM supporter even if the law prevents army officers from engaging in partisan politics. Most NRM candidates in Gulu and the Acholi sub region lost in the parliamentary elections.

The Brigadier must learn that the Acholis like their “mascot” the Elephant have long long memories. Note they still sing about Lakila in their Bwola Dance.
