Police in Nwoya on yesterday recovered an AK47 riffle with 22 rounds of ammunitions in Anaka Town council.
The gun was discovered by a drunkard around 10pm in the corridor of Pacific Hotel as he went to use the toilet.
Aswa region police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema said the gun belongs to a UPDF soldier. The details of the soldier could not be established by press time since the number of the gun number had not yet been identified.
The police spokesman said they are investigating the intention of leaving the gun in the corridors of hotel.
Nwoya neighbours Murchison Falls National Park. Armed men often sneak into the park to poach animals using guns. But it is unclear as to whether the gun found by the drunk could be linked to poaching or not.
In 2014 Police in Nwoya arrested police arrested a notorious poacher suspected to be behind the supply of guns to poachers in the district.
