Gulu Municipal Councilors have demanded for quick justice for the fallen councilor Odong Tommy Olanya, 39.
Mr Olanya was on Thursday evening knocked dead by a speeding car registration number UAU746R. The car was being driven by Major Otim G Damien, a UPDF soldier attached to Bombo barracks.
A case of over speeding causing death and damage of property was opened against the Major Otim at Gulu Central Police under file number TAR211/2016.
George Labeja, the Gulu Municipality mayor eulogized the late Odong as a hardworking and ambitious young man. Mr promised to pursue the case to till the suspect, Major Otim is produced in court.
Nono Denis, councilor IV representing Ariaga in Gulu Municipality said Major Otim must be produced in court immediately because he has about pending five traffic cases that he has never been held responsible for.
“We want the Major produced in court immediately so that he is held answerable for his actions that led to the death of Tommy,” Mr Nono said while paying his last respects to the late Olanya at the Gulu district council hall.
However, the Officer in charge of Traffic at Gulu Central Police Station, Inspector Ponsiano Opwonya denied claims that Major Otim has pending traffic cases, saying the only case Maj Otim had was resolved.

“It was in April last year that he[Otim] knocked a wall fence in Gulu town and the case was resolved where he built up the fence, no any pending traffic case is against that man,” said Opwonya.

The police man said Major Otim is still in the hospital nursing wounds he sustained during the accident and that the UPDF soldier will be produced in court once he is discharged from hospital.
