Aswa region police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema conformed the murder of the driver by suspect iron bar hit men

A driver of a lorry destined for South Sudan was on Sunday morning hit dead by suspected iron bar hit men.

Police say Ahmad Ruzindana was attacked at 3 am at Layibi, about 2kms from Gulu town.

Ruzindana’s murder brings to four the number of people killed by iron bar hit men—the name given by Gulu municipality residents  to thugs who hit unsuspecting people going about their business either late in the night or very early in the morning.

Gulu has witnessed rampant cases of night attacks by iron bar hitmen since September last year.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) confirmed the incident and said the assailants first put a log blocking the road before attacking Ruzindana and his turn man who had stopped to remove the log from the road.

Okema explained that as the turn man identified as Muyindo Rashid tried to remove the log, one of the attackers emerged and hit him.

A terrified dashed back into the cabin of the lorry.  But one attacker opened the door and hit Ruzindana on the head with a log, killing him instantly.

A postmortem report indicated that the driver suffered a broken skull following the violent attack.

Police recovered the log suspected to have been used in the attack.

The turn man Muyindo managed to drive the trailer to St Mary’s Hospital- Lacor where he received treatment before he was discharged and referred to Kampala for better treatment.

No suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Since August  last year, 19 people majority of whom residents of Gulu town have been   attacked by a group of suspected organized criminals who use iron bars, clubs, metal and knives  to harm unsuspecting residents.

There would be finger prints on those iron bars. That is why it is necessary for the police to keep proper record of people entering the districts. Their ID, their finger prints etc, data kept digitally can be shared and seen any where. How can this go on with no strategy to tackle it? Dano mogo tye ka waco ni Langi aye gitye katimo man. Lok ada kece gobba? Gin pe cwinygi yom ni kuc odwogo.
