Prof Ogenga- Latigo, the Chairman Acholi Parliamentary Group (APG) has described a proposed plan by government to give away part of Aswa ranch to members of the ruling NRM party and private ranchers as a provocation of the Acholi people.
Prof Latigo noted that if the government had no sinister motive, it would have not giveaway the ranch without consulting the Acholi people, whom he described as the rightful owners of the over 4,000 hectares ranch.
Speaking recently on political talkshow on a local FM radio, Latigo said that he had no doubt in his mind that what the government is doing is meant to provoke the Acholi leadership.
The Agago North County (Agago district) told listeners that Acholi leaders under their Acholi Leaders Joint Forum, a loose coalition which follow up the matter.
The legislator also accused the government of sitting on some of the issues raised by leaders from Acholi in the past. He cited the demand for a share of oil resources as one such matter which hasn’t received a response from government despite it being put to President Museveni by Acholi leaders.
On April 11, Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda told leaders from Acholi sub region led by the Paramount Chief Rwot David Onen Acana II that government intends to supply the cattle that are currently being bred at Aswa ranch to private beef processing company, the Egypt-Uganda Food Security Company, according to sources that attended the meeting.
The new private beef processing company found along Bombo road in Luweero district was opened by President Yoweri Museveni late last year.
The Paramount Chief, Rwot Acana II, expressed worry that Acholi leaders were being prevented from visiting the ranch. Rugunda responded that access to the ranch has been restricted and that leaders who want to visit should consult government.

Acholi never agreed to the forceful evacuation in order to create the Murchison Game Park (from which they benefit nothing and soon to be privatized to Indians) nor did they sign away Aswa Ranch land to any body. PLEASE SHOW us any documents to that effect. Any land should only be privatized BACk to the Acholi Kingdom.
