Gulu High Court Judge Justice Vincent Okwanga has released on bail one of the seven suspects charged with the murder of former Gulu Deputy Town Clerk Oola John Omona.

Denis Otim, 32, alias Lakidi was released on Monday evening on a cash bond after his lawyer, Geoffrey Boris Anyuru of Odongo & Co Advocates lodged an application in High Court asking his client to be released on bail citing health grounds.

Medical document filed in court indicates that Otim is suffering from HIV/Aids and needs medical attention.

Otim’s lawyer argued that the prison may not be the best place to get medical attention of for his client considering his ill-health.

The Judge agreed and ordered the suspect to deposit 2 million shillings cash and report to court every second Friday of the month starting September 8, 2017. Two of the sureties were each bonded on a non-cash bail of 3 million shillings.

Initially, only three men were charged with the killing of Oola.

However the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) amended the charge that saw three more suspected added into the charge sheet.

Martin Akena (20) and George Oryem were the first suspects to be arrested and charged with the murder of Oola. Later on in June, police arrested Emmanuel Komakech (23), Denis Uhuru (25), Francis Okello (33) and Sharon Akello (22).

Prosecution contends that on June 22, 2017 at Kanyagoga ‘B’ in Kanyagoga parish in Bar-Dege division, Gulu Municipality, the seven murdered John Oola Omona.
