At least 412 people have been enrolled on Anti-retroviral Therapy (ART) at The Aids Support Organization in Gulu in the last one month they tested positive for HIV, according to Benard Kizito, the Center Manager TASO Gulu.
Mr Kizito said the 412 are part of over 8,000 people tested in July this year and that they have already been enrolled for ART treatment.
Since 2004, at least 20,000 clients have been enrolled on ART by TASO.
HIV prevalence rate for Gulu stands at 7 percent, higher than the national which stands at 6.3 percent.
Speaking during TASO’s 14th Annual General Meeting at the Centre in Gulu town on Friday last week, Kizito says the new clients enlisted are an outcome of what he called the test and treat campaign.
The campaign is part of a new strategy adopted to scale down infections and eliminate the deadly virus by 2030. Kizito encouraged men to join the fight against the HIV scourge. He said men are key in fighting new infections.
Gloria Adong, a youth born with HIV called on expectant mothers to test and know their status.
Adong who learnt her HIV sero status in 2012 also called on men to join the fight against new infections noting that their efforts are key in achieving a world free of HIV/Aids.
