Amuru district health department will for the first time in thirteen years begin conducting surgeries and operations.
This follows the Friday last week commissioning of Attiak Health Centre IV by Vice President Edward Ssekandi. Construction of the health centre started last year and was completed in April this year.
The facility is now headed by a surgeon, Dr Angelo Ochieng who said the health centre has capacity to conduct both minor and major surgeries as the needed equipment are in place.
Dr Ochieng said the opening of the health centre is a big development and step forward as patients will now not travel to St Mary`s Hospital Lacor and Gulu Main Hospital as has been the case.
The health centre has a blood bank, oxygen cylinders and a theatre.
Samuel Akera, the chairperson of Attiak Health Centre’s management committee chairperson said the health will contribute to addressing the health challenges Amuru district faces.
Vice President Edward Ssekandi while commissioning the facility said government is committed to improving access to health services in the country.
