    Seven Injured As Bus Knocks Dead Elephant in Nwoya

    At least seven people were hospitalized after sustaining severe injuries when a bus knocked dead an elephant along the Karuma-Pakwach road.

    The incident happened at  Got Apwoyo Village, Got Apwoyo Sub-county, Nwoya district.

    The bus registration number UAL158Z, belonged to the Arua-based Gaaga bus company which has a chequered safety record.

    The bus was travelling from Paidha town in Nebbi district to Kampala when it knocked the elephant an from Murchison Falls National Park. The park is located on the left side of the Karuma- Pakwach road.

    The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema said on Thursday

    He said the injured were rushed to Pakwach Government Hospital for medical treatment.

    Okema identified the injured as Twaha Karim, the bus driver, Dr Christine Mpora, David Tibito, Derrick Rwothngeyo, Muhammad Ssegirinya.

    Others are Francis Oroma, Sandra Aweka and Ismail Ramathan.

    Okema blamed the accident on over speeding.

    In June last year, two people died on spot after a trailer knocked an elephant at Diima Village, Kiryandongo District on the Gulu-Kampala high way.

    Similarly, in June 2016, three people died and 10 others sustained injuries after a KKT travellers bus knocked dead an elephant at Alengo village in Mutunda Sub-county in Kiryandongo district.
