Gulu Chief Magistrate Deogratius Ssejemba, on Monday remanded a 24 year-old HIV/aids positive woman to Gulu Central Prison over aggravated defilement of a six year old primary school boy.

The suspect, Ms Ketty Apiyo, a resident of Lamin Lawino Village in Ongako Sub-county Gulu District, reportedly lured the young boy into having sex with her in her garden on 6th of July 2015.

According to Police reports, the boy came back home on the fateful day looking for his mother after being chased from school for not having an exercise book but did not find her as she had gone to a nearby market.

However, the suspect who is a neighbour in the area who was tending to her garden later called on the boy to help her with small garden work before luring him into having sex with her on an ant hill.

O.C Crimes Gulu Central Police station, Mr James Asubu, told Acholi times on Tuesday that the suspect’s luck run out when the boy’s mother Ms Paska Akello, returned and found him at home instead of school.

He said Ms Akello quizzed her son why he was at home instead of school which prompted him to confess what happened leading to the arrest of the suspect.

“When the suspect was arrested, an HIV test was carried out but unfortunately, the woman’s results were HIV positive. The boy was immediately enrolled on Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), as the doctors monitor his condition,” says Mr Asubu.

Mr Ssejemba charged the suspect with aggravated defilement and didn’t allow her to enter plea since the magnitude of the crime was capital in nature considering she had sex with a minor with knowledge that she was HIV/Aids positive.

Mr Ssejemba, later adjourned the case till next month when the suspect will appear in for mentioning.
