Over 10 community Boreholes are reported to have broken down in the sub counties of Awach, Patiko and Palaro causing a water scarcity in the area.

Ms Lalam Stella Lillian, the woman LV councilor for Awach, Patiko Palaro told Acholi times that the 3 sub counties need the immediate intervention of Gulu district local government and development partners.

She explained that some of the damages need major repair and that the amount of Money collected by the water user committees is not enough to help with the borehole rehabilitation.

Lalam however appealed to the community to always collect the amount of money normally agreed by them so that repairs can be done.

“In case of major repairs, it is easy to get support from the district offices because they would have followed the regulation governing water sources within the community,” Lalam said.

Lalam argued that most community members do not wish to contribute the Shs500 to Shs1000 to the water user committee which is meant to help handle minor rehabilitations on their borehole.

“I am afraid most of these community members had not yet gotten their water account with the district and there is nowhere to begin but I am encouraging them to contribute and open accounts with the district so that they are assisted,” Lalam said.

She cited Karanyi in Labworomor Parish, Palaro Sub County and Labika in Paibona and Paibona tuku in Awach Sub County as the three places with boreholes in worst conditions that need immediate attention.

Acholi times have also exclusively verified that Gang-bar village and Owalo Parish all in Palaro Sub County in Aswa county Gulu district do not have Boreholes.
