Mr Richard Todwong, the Deputy Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has warned members of his political party against consulting witchdoctors in an effort to win the forthcoming elections.

Addressing the residents of Awach parish, Awach Sub County in Gulu district on Friday, Todwong said, “Out of fear of losing elections, some are likely to seek the service of witchdoctors so as to know what their political future looks like before the electorates cast their votes.”

Todwong noted that witchdoctors are poor people who are looking for survival hence they would not solve the problem.

According to the former Minister, “Such practices will not change anything unless aspirants work hard to win the heart of voters.”

He urged politicians to be ready to fail before thinking of winning an election.

Todwong lost in the 2006 parliamentary election to Mr Norbert Mao in the Gulu Municipality Member of Parliament race before being elected in the 2011 elections after running for Nwoya County seat.

Todwong also asked those aspiring for political offices under the ruling party to seek God’s guidance in their political dreams instead of thinking that the devil will make them sail through political hailstorm.

During the 2011 elections campaigns, Mr Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, the Gulu district LCV Chairperson alleged that some of his rivals had turned to witchcraft in order to kill him.

Mr Francis Nyero, a witchdoctor in Gulu confessed recently that he has been approached by several politicians whom he declined to name for his services in the name of winning elections.

Fr. Remijo Obol, the parish priest of Awach Catholic Mission also warned politicians against such tendency asked them to believe in God.

Obol calls for unity as the country goes into elections.
