The Gulu District Resident Commissioner, Mr Andrew Moses Awany has tasked the Acholi cultural leaders to work closely with government in a bid to fight homosexuality among young people.
He said young people are easily susceptive to embracing western culture that promotes homosexuality which is a practice that shows moral decadence.
Speaking at the launch of documented Acholi culture dubbed ‘the intangible culture’, Mr Awany appealed to the cultural leaders to embark on mass sensitization of young people on their culture in their villages and schools to revive the dying culture.
He said, “This is because young people are easily tricked into believing anything at their tender age and because western culture is so liberalized that it gives them a lot of freedom. They are tempted to explore what may not be morally right for them.
He also appealed to cultural leaders to embrace documentation of relevant information on culture in order to prevent cultural erosion because such materials benefit the future generation in learning about culture.
Early last year, Pentecostal assemblies church of Gulu district organized a mass prayer in front of Gulu district council hall which included many district officials from entire northern Uganda and over one thousand people protesting against the practice of homosexuality in the district, Uganda and the world at large.
Rwot Yusuf Adek of Pageya-Patiko clan also this year while addressing people of Appa village in Pabbo sub county, Amuru district also cautioned youth against involving homosexuality and sexual crimes which have caused erosion in culture.
