Leonard Opio Ojok, popularly known as Aleo has expressed gratitude to the people of Agago for the peaceful polls in the recently concluded NRM primary elections.
Mr Ojok was elected the NRM candidate for the Agago LC5 Chairmanship.
Ojok said the elections were characterized by peace, love, respect and unity among voters and aspirants alike.
“You [the voters] analyzed us, listened to us and made a decision to elect the person you deemed fit for the different positions, a process that no one should take for granted – I thank you,” said Ojok in an interview with Acholi Times on Friday.
Ojok said with the leaders elected, there is potential for positive change in the Agago since they will do away with jealousy, tribalism and enmity which he alleges characterized the past leadership in the district.
Leonard Ojok Opio was the first Chief Administrative Officer Pader district. He is a younger brother to Justice Owiny Dollo.
He contested and won NRM flag bearer for LCV seat in Agago district, beating the incumbent Odok Wod’ Oceng and other contenders.
“Leadership is sacrifice and therefore all who contested along with me portrayed a lot of courage,’’ he said.
”My people in Agago, we have had challenges with our leadership as I mentioned earlier, but with the change seen in primary election, the future is bright.”
He urged the people of the district to embrace unity in order to pave way for development.
“If we have one voice, where all people from the 16 Sub Counties in Agago district share the same interest, then the president and even the Pope or any other person we appeal to will listen and respond to our demands”.
Mr Ojok will face George Odong of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in the LC5 Chair race.
Agago was curved out of Pader in 2010 when the district was under the Chairmanship of Peter Odok Wod’ Oceng who subsequently moved to contest in the new district. If Ojok is elected Chairman of Agago it will be a case of a former Chief Administrative Officer replacing his former Chairman.
