Amama Mbabazi, the Go Forward Independent Presidential candidate has said President Museveni should take full responsibility for what has happened in the country for the last 30 years since he (Museveni) assumed office.
Mbabazi told a rally at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu on Tuesday that under Museveni the youth are jobless while millions of Ugandans are wallowing in poverty.
The former Prime Minister admitted he was part of the Museveni government but said he has never been the president and that in Uganda only the president makes the decisions. For this, he said, Museveni must take full responsibility for the failures of his government.
Although Mbabazi said he was not responsible for the failures of a government he worked for in various capacities for 30 years, he apologized for funds stolen under the Peace, Recovery and Development Plan (PRDP) which was under his docket as Prime Minister.
The PRDP was a post conflict recovery programme for northern Uganda.
While addressing the press over the weekend in Gulu, Museveni said Mbabazi has nothing new to offer. Ironically this is the criticism many Museveni opponents accuse him of; they say after 30 years in power, Museveni cannot offer any fresh ideas that can transform the country.
Before he fell out with Mbabazi, Museveni had a history of praising his former Prime Minister saying he(Mbabazi) was hardworking and sober man.
