An AK47 rifle and an explosive have been found by children at parking yard in the border town of Elegu in Amuru district.
Elegu is only 200 meters away from the South Sudan’s border town of Nimule.
Army said the AK 47 assault rifle and the unexploded ordnance were on Monday found by children under a large parked truck at a yard in the border town.
The weapon was removed army’s 501 brigade based in Bibia, also in Amuru district.
The 4th Division army spokesperson Lt Ronald Ovon said the gun had an empty magazine but was still in good working condition.
The army publicist said they suspect the gun and bomb had been hidden by criminals.
He said in the last two months, the army has recovered seven unexploded ordinances in Acholi and the West Nile region.
Discovery of military weapons are a common occurrence in northern Uganda which witnessed a war for more than two decades.
