Nwoya Police has asked the ministry of internal affair to check on the flow of illegal arms in the district.
Speaking on Monday during a stakeholders meeting organized by the ministry of internal affair in Anaka town council, Emily Afoyocan, the Community Liaisons Officer Nwoya said the illegal guns entering into the district are from unknown sources.
Afoyocan suspects the guns are left overs of the conflict in South Sudan while others are from South Sudan.
The police liaison officer said the illegal guns are majorly used for poaching animals in the Murchison Falls National park.
Nwoya district chairman Patrick Okello Oryema said the said government should come up with a surveillance strategy to check on the flow of illegal firearms.
Okello said the government should also sensitise communities on the dangers of illegal firearms.
Florence Kirabira from ministry of internal affair said purpose of the meeting is to engage and seek solutions to address the challenges posed by small arms.
