Police in Gulu is hunting for a 23-year-old man identified as Michael Oyet on suspicion that he murdered his 8- month old child.
The body of the child, Trevor Rubangakene, was found dumped at Keyi ‘’A’’ village Kabedopong parish in Bardege division in Gulu municipality.
The body, wrapped in a white apron was discovered by a group of children who were swimming in a quarry pit filled up with water.
In an interview with Acholi times at the Central Police Post on Wednesday, Juliet Acayo, 17, the mother of the deceased said she had a disagreement on Sunday with her boyfriend Oyet (who is also father of her child).
“He (Oyet) complained that I am always with our child and I have never given him any opportunity to be with him (baby). He asked for the baby so that he can carry him. He went away [with the baby] without telling me where he was going yet I had asked him to return my baby back,” said Achayo.
Achayo adds that the following day she waited for Oyet to bring back the child in vain until she had to report the matter to police.
Achayo and Oyet had cohabited before separation six months ago.
The officer in- Charge Criminal Investigations in Gulu district, James Asubu said the deceased was taken to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for post mortem pending investigations into the matter.
“We still don’t know who exactly did it[murdered the child] but our main suspect is still him (Oyet) because he disappeared on the day police discovered the body of the child.
Editor’s note: In an earlier version of this story we incorrectly stated that the dead child was 8-years old. We have since established that the child was 8-months old. Thank you.

How does a child of 17 year old have her own child of 8 yr old? The tragedy is very sad indeed. I wonder how many mothers would kill their own children out of jealousy because the father is spending too much time with the child. What does this say about men? I mean about ‘god’? Not to mention the irony in the child’s name.
RIP Rubangakene
