Two companies contracted to supply Nwoya with cattle under the ongoing restocking program have withheld supplies for financial year 2015/2016 due to unpaid debt.
Merge Investment and Kabin Company limited have withheld supplies in Nwoya until they are cleared.
This reporter understands the two companies were contracted by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) in Kampala.
Moses Tumwine, Manager of Kabin Company limited said on Thursday that OPM owes his company 102 million shillings for work done from last year.
“It was capital and besides a loan so we felt hit hard financially because we could not deep our hands any were else other than with holding the whole program,’’ said Tumwine who quickly added ‘‘ But we are optimistic of resuming soon now that we have got a positive response from the OPM who are willing to clear,’’ he said.
An official of Merge, another of the companies contracted by OPM said they had already been cleared but that they are awaiting communication on what next from OPM because their contract ended.
Nwoya Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Beatrice Akello Akori called on beneficiaries of the restocking programme to be patient saying the debt ought to the companies will be cleared before the end of April.
“I have been receiving a lot of complains from the beneficiaries who have become impatient but I know their issues will be sorted out,” Akello said.
A total of 404 cattle including 29 bulls and 375 female cows are to be distributed by the two companies in Nwoya district.
