Gulu high court has today morning dismissed with costs a petition filed by Simon Toolit Akecha challenging the election of Omoro County Member of Parliament and Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.
Justice David Matovu in his ruling declared that Oulanyah was properly and validly elected as Member of Parliament for Omoro County.
Speaking to the press shortly after the ruling, Toolit said he would consult his lawyers on the next step.
“I am not able to give an answer about that now but I will have to consult my lawyer and see if I can appeal. But all I can say is that the judge has not been fair to me from the first day the case kicked off”, says Toolit.
Simon Toolit dragged Jacob Oulanyah to the Gulu Court in February claiming Oulanyah had rigged the February 18 Omoro parliamentary elections.
He also maintains that the electoral commission should consider a re-run for the Omoro County MP race saying the previous one was full of massive rigging.
According to election results released by the electoral Commission on February 18, 2016, Oulanyah, who is also the incumbent Omoro County MP, polled 8,218 votes while his rival Simon Toolit (FDC), polled 6,823 votes.
