Police officers in Pader district have been left with egg on the face after being conned by a nurse who masquerade as a police Commissioner and promised them promotions.
To get new and higher pips, Gladious Akello, 38, asked 15 Special Police Constables(SPC) and Crime Preventers her between 150,000 to and 500,000 shilling.
Akello is a nursing assistant attached to Tekulu Health Centre II in Bobi Sub County in Omoro district.
Aswa region police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema said Akello was allegedly posing as a Commissioner of Police from the Human Resource Department from the police headquarters in Kampala.
Akello, according to Okema promised her victims promotions, transfers and recruitment into the police force. For recruitment into the police, she particularly targeted Crime Preventers who are technically not police officers but help in policing crime in communities).
Akello’s luck, however run out on Monday this week when she was arrested after the conned constables and Crime Preventers began to complain consequently leading to her arrest.
The suspect is currently detained at Gulu Central Police.
Police has described as ‘‘ignorant’’ the cops and Crime Preventers conned by Akello.
‘‘If police wants to recruit or promote, there are proper procedures to follow,’’ said Okema the Aswa region police spokesman.
Police say say Akello will be charged with obtaining money by false presence as well as impersonation when investigation is complete.
