    Man Arrested With Cocked Pistol In Paimol Martyrs Shrine

    Aswa River Region police Spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema

    Police in Aswa River Region have arrested a local businessman who tried to access Paimol Martyrs’ Shrine in Paimol Agago district while armed with a cocked pistol.

    Police identified the man as Peter Odyek, a resident of Abe in Oyam district.

    On interrogation police however established he had legally acquired his pistol. According to police, Odyek will  still be questioned as to why he went with a dangerous weapon to a public gathering.

    Mr Odyek was released but not with his gun. Police say they established that the man has another weapon at his home further saying that Odyek will record a statement at the Aswa River Police Regional Headquarters in Gulu.

    Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Police Spokesperson said Odyek, in his 50s was armed with a Star pistol number UG0077549 with 13 rounds of ammunitions.

    At the time of the arrest, the gun was cocked, according to Okema.

    Mr Odyek was arrested when the metal detector went off. The machine was deployed for the recent celebrations that was attended by thousands at Martyrs shrine in Paimol.
